CORAL REEF EDUCATION INSTITUTE OF HAWAII
Coral Reef Education Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to teach as many people as possible about the negative human impacts on our oceans and what the solutions are to those issues. Our goal is to restore, rehabilitate, and replant coral reefs in Hawaii. We are working to bridge the gap between government, scientists and citizens. Coral Reef Education Institute provides on-line and in-person citizen science training programs, as well as a mobile response team to assist other communities around the globe in our mutual effort to preserve ocean resources. These citizen scientists are trained to bring change in their communities and educate the like-minded.
We bring together a global network of scientists, ocean enthusiasts, and communities that are dedicated to the health of our oceans. Through a collective effort, we create solutions to protect, monitor and restore our coral reefs. We understand the importance of the “it takes a village” concept, and build foundations of people around the world to collaborate in this collective effort worldwide. Hawaii has a unique ocean ecosystem, so we are starting in our own backyard.
We are actively fundraising to build an Ocean Science Center on the Big Island of Hawaii. This Institute will have lab and dorm space to host scientists from around the world and provide a place to teach our Citizen Science Programs to help restore coral reefs in Hawaii. We are a proactive solution-based Institute. CREI’s Ocean Science Center will be the hub for Coral Conservation, Education and Restoration in Hawaii.”
